Sazerac cocktail

New Orleans’ official cocktail — rye, Peychaud’s, and a whisper of absinthe.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Rye whiskey
  • 1 Sugar cube
  • 3 dashes Peychaud’s bitters
  • 1 barspoon Absinthe - for the rinse
  • 1 strip Lemon peel

How to make it

  1. Rinse a chilled rocks glass with absinthe and dump the excess
  2. Stir rye, sugar, and bitters with ice until cold
  3. Strain into the glass neat — no ice
  4. Express the lemon peel over the top and discard it
